Styling your home this winter with curtains, bedding and much more

May – the month for beautiful changes

We sure did celebrate in style!

It was lovely to see so many of you come along and help celebrate Amazing Interiors’ 15th birthday – thank you for making it so special. It got me thinking – wouldn’t it be nice if we were as excited about our own birthdays as we are when our businesses clock up the years!

The marvellous Marjorelle

A huge thank you to Blair and Sue from James Dunlop Textiles for presenting Mokum’s new Majorelle Collection while our guests sipped champagne. Designed by the talented Australian-born, New York-based Catherine Martin, Majorelle is a stunning triumph.

Beautiful, elegant and inspiring, it’s an eclectic collation of luxury textiles, trimmings and wallpapers. Catherine’s inspiration came from her recent foray into tropical flora and fauna, as well as Orientalism and exotic faraway lands.

Unashamedly a maximalist, Catherine’s Majorelle features 17 different designs that bring together diverse, exquisite textures in bold colours and daring combinations. Velvets feature prominently. Blair said we’re a little precious with velvet, which is true. Velvets are robust and should be handled so we can enjoy them. Choose it for more than just cushions too – think curtains, ottomans, bedcovers, chaises and couches. You can’t go wrong.

Part of the collection, the La Palma range, impressed many of us – especially the wallpapers. The tropical designs are printed on vinyl, and the texture is so luscious, they look like original paintings. These wallpapers not only look divine covering entire walls, they can stand alone as separate panels of artwork.

The Metallique range is intriguing too. Resembling hammered metal, according to Blair, “It looks fantastic by day and better by night.”

News flash: Catherine is married to Australian film director Baz Lurhmann. The couple work together occasionally on design projects and their most famous collaboration is the Faena Hotel in Miami. The result is a glittering blend of theatricality and their exquisite design nous.

One lucky Amazing Interiors client wins Catherine Martin duvet

Our party was about giving too and Amazing Interiors client Robyne Martin won the gorgeous La Palma Hollywood King Duvet Cover, valued at $676 and kindly donated by James Dunlop. Thrilled when her name was drawn, she was even more excited when she took her prize back home. “The colours are so soothing,” says Robyn. “The duvet has lifted our bedroom décor to a whole new level.”

Curtains can make or break your winter

With winter nights drawing in, we’re pulling the curtains earlier, which means we’re seeing more of them. So are yours handling the scrutiny? With 50% discount on all curtain making this month, now’s the perfect time to welcome in fresh beauty and warmer rooms. BOOK YOUR APPOINTMENT HERE.

Linen is big news in curtains this season, either pure linen or in polyester blends. Both look dreamy, floaty and soft – the perfect look for the bedroom. This is a relaxed look that celebrates slubs and imperfections and gives us a sense of escaping from our high-tech world.

There’s a softening of décor styles too, with minimalism on the way out, while luxe and softness moves in. In relation to window treatments, shutters or blinds by themselves can look clinical. Perhaps relax the mood with the appealing textures of linen drapery?

Remember that pure linen moves, as it responds to the amount of moisture in the air. Do keep this in mind when deciding on hem lengths. Blair advised to puddle the curtains on the floor – something we suggest to our clients as well. Viscose is another robust fabric. We’re also seeing metal threads such as stainless steel, woven in with fabric threads.  These metal yarns won’t rot or fade and just perfect for those rooms that are bathed in sunlight.

Styling your bedrooms for winter style and comfort

This time of year, we naturally layer the bed with extra throws and comforters, but there’s so much more we can do to restyle our bedrooms this winter. Our 20% discount on bedding and headboards this month is a great start!

Think about dressing your bed from top to toe. Starting from the top, beautiful headboards add an extra layer of comfort and style, perhaps in soft neutrals or as dramatic, contrasting design statements. We have plenty of options in our showroom and online, so tell us what you have in mind – we’ll be happy to guide you.

In a similar way, ottomans at the foot of the bed add elegance and practicality; ideal for storing pillows and throws overnight, or laying out clothes for the next day.

Indulging in early nights in bed with a pile of books beside you? Make sure your bedside tables can handle the weight! Here we have some gorgeous options, with drawers or shelves.

And finally, to complete the look, the glory goes to lamps – bedside, table and floor – as the ultimate mood enhancers.  Whether for bedside lamps, dresser lamps or a stunning lamp for the floor – the right choice will bring a scheme together beautifully.

Have fun getting cosy, won’t you?

Love from Carol and the Team ….
